Psychological Assessment

Our team provides comprehensive psychological assessments in Minnesota, including ADHD testing, psychoeducational evaluations, and mental health assessments for children, adolescents, and adults.

Why Consider a Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessments help identify the underlying causes of attention, learning, and mental health concerns, providing a clear foundation for accurate diagnosis and effective next steps.

A comprehensive psychological evaluation includes a detailed assessment and written report that offers practical insight into cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. These findings can help guide treatment, school or workplace accommodations, and long-term planning.

Our assessments also support identification of ADHD, learning disorders (such as dyslexia and dyscalculia), intellectual functioning, and giftedness, helping individuals and families better understand strengths and areas of need.

Understanding the Why Behind Your Challenges

Psychological assessments serve a crucial purpose in identifying the root causes of an individual’s presenting concerns. They help guide effective next steps, including accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment planning.

The benefits of assessment extend beyond immediate needs, providing individuals with a valuable blueprint for navigating daily life. With a meticulous evaluation and written report, individuals can gain insight into possible contributors to stress, trauma, or other psychological challenges.

Our assessments also offer a framework for understanding and addressing neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, learning disorders (for example, dyslexia and dyscalculia), intellectual functioning, and cognitive giftedness.

PROCESS

What to Expect During
Your Psychological Assessment

The assessment process typically includes a clinical interview, one to three half-days of in-person testing, completion of questionnaires (the average client takes 20 to 60 minutes), contact with collateral sources, and a feedback session.

  • Clinical Interview (Virtual or In-Person): A 1.5 to 2-hour interview to understand your concerns, background, and goals. This is typically conducted virtually, with in-person options available.

  • Testing: One to three in-person sessions (each session averages about 4 hours).

  • Questionnaires: Completion of online questionnaires.

  • Collateral Information (Optional): With your consent, we may contact family members or others who can provide additional context. This step is often recommended to support a thorough, well-informed report.

  • Follow-Up: Additional appointments may be scheduled to clarify, gather, or support information.

  • Data Analysis: Approximately 1 to 2 hours for scoring and interpreting test data, in addition to reviewing relevant records (for example, resumes, report cards, or prior reports).

  • Report: Approximately 6 hours dedicated to integrating findings into a contextual written report, accompanied by a diagnosis when applicable.

  • Feedback Session: A 1-hour meeting to review results and discuss tailored recommendations.

  • Follow-Up (Optional): Optional appointments to support next steps (for example, school meetings, report interpretation, or planning related to recommendations).

Types of Assessments

01

Mental Health Assessments

A mental health assessment is a fundamental evaluation that offers valuable insights for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, regardless of the severity of their condition.

Through a comprehensive evaluation conducted by our psychologists, the resulting report will provide clarity on mental health symptoms and any previous diagnoses. This detailed assessment helps individuals gain a better understanding of their mental well-being.

In today's complex and fast-paced world, we face numerous challenges. By gaining insight into our mental health, we become better equipped to navigate the ups and downs of life. Consequently, having access to a comprehensive mental health assessment report becomes an invaluable tool that enhances our everyday experiences and equips us to face life's challenges more effectively.

02

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (aDHD) Assessments

ADHD, a neurodevelopmental disorder, requires a careful and comprehensive assessment process to accurately and responsibly determine its presence. This involves clinical interviews, standardized questionnaires, and evaluating executive functioning.

We believe ADHD assessments should include a detailed mental health assessment, as emotional and behavioral factors can significantly influence attention and overall presentation. This supports accurate diagnosis and intervention planning. For this reason, the ADHD assessment fee includes a comprehensive mental health evaluation.

Clinical interviews gather detailed information about medical history and symptoms, fostering an open and supportive environment. Standardized questionnaires provide structured assessments, comparing symptoms to established norms. Evaluating executive functioning helps understand the impact on daily life.

By combining these methods, healthcare professionals can confidently diagnose ADHD and develop appropriate treatment plans. This responsible and accurate approach respects the unique needs of individuals seeking help.

03

Learning
Assessments

Learning assessments provide a comprehensive evaluation that encompasses a wide range of disorders, focusing on both intellectual disabilities and learning disorders, as well as cognitive giftedness.

Within the realm of learning disabilities, these assessments address the intricate relationship between intelligence and academic achievement. Specific examples of learning disorders include dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia, which can significantly impact an individual's learning and educational progress.

Moreover, learning assessments also evaluate intellectual functioning to identify various levels of intellectual disabilities and assess cognitive giftedness. By examining an individual's cognitive abilities, we gain a deeper understanding of their intellectual strengths and weaknesses, enabling us to develop tailored interventions and educational strategies.

These assessments play a crucial role in providing individuals with a comprehensive profile of their cognitive abilities, which in turn informs effective interventions and supports for optimal learning and personal development.

04

Neuropsychological
Evaluations

Neuropsychological evaluations provide a comprehensive assessment of cognitive functioning, including attention, executive functioning, memory, and processing speed. These evaluations are similar in structure to learning and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessments, as they involve cognitive, attention, and memory testing.

The primary difference is the focus, with greater emphasis on underlying cognitive processes such as attention, executive functioning, and memory, and less emphasis on academic achievement. Learning and academic testing can still be included where relevant, but are not the primary focus.

Neuropsychological evaluations are often recommended when individuals experience difficulties with focus, organization, memory, or problem-solving, and help clarify how cognitive functioning impacts learning and day-to-day performance.

05

Integrated
Assessments

Integrated assessments combine various assessment approaches mentioned earlier. Before determining the extent of the final assessment, it is important to explore this type of assessment based on the individual's clinical presentation and specific needs and questions.

The level of detail and comprehensiveness in an integrated assessment can be tailored by our team of psychologists to meet the requirements of both the client and the assessor. It is crucial to compile this type of report in collaboration, ensuring that all parties are involved in the process.

06

Independent Medical
Evaluations (IME's)

Our psychologists approach IMEs with the utmost dedication, aiming to provide comprehensive and unbiased reports that highlight all relevant aspects of each case. Our commitment to efficiency ensures that these evaluations are completed promptly without compromising the quality of our work.
