Understanding the Why Behind Your Challenges

Psychological assessments serve a crucial purpose in identifying the root causes of an individual’s presenting concerns. They help guide effective next steps, including accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatment planning.

The benefits of assessment extend beyond immediate needs, providing individuals with a valuable blueprint for navigating daily life. With a meticulous evaluation and written report, individuals can gain insight into possible contributors to stress, trauma, or other psychological challenges.

Our assessments also offer a framework for understanding and addressing neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, learning disorders (for example, dyslexia and dyscalculia), intellectual functioning, and cognitive giftedness.

Ready Psych Go offers Walk & Talk Therapy around Cedar Lake in Minneapolis. Sessions provide the same individualized, evidence-based approach as traditional therapy, with the option to walk and talk rather than remain seated in an office.

Why Walk & Talk?

For some people, walking while talking can feel more natural and comfortable than sitting face-to-face in a traditional therapy setting. Being outdoors can also provide a change of environment while working toward the same therapeutic goals addressed in traditional psychotherapy.

Walking is always optional. Sessions can include walking, sitting, or a combination of both depending on the client’s preferences and needs.

What to Expect

Walk & Talk sessions are similar to traditional psychotherapy sessions, except that they take place outdoors. The pace, route, and amount of walking can be adjusted based on your comfort, preferences, mobility, and therapeutic needs.

Because sessions occur outdoors, weather and environmental conditions are considered before each session. When conditions are not appropriate for an outdoor session, the session may be changed to virtual when clinically and practically appropriate or rescheduled.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Walking is always optional. Sessions can involve walking, sitting, or a combination of both depending on your comfort and preferences.

  • Most Walk & Talk Therapy sessions are approximately 50 minutes and typically involve a shorter route around the Cedar Lake area rather than walking around the entire lake. We will choose a route that fits comfortably within the scheduled session. If you would like to walk around the entire lake, an extended session can be arranged in advance. A full walk around Cedar Lake typically takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on pace and conditions.

  • Walk & Talk Therapy can take place in a range of weather conditions when it is reasonably safe and comfortable to do so. Your comfort level is important. If there is heavy rain, extreme temperatures, poor air quality, icy conditions, or other circumstances that make an outdoor session uncomfortable or unsafe, the session can be changed to virtual when appropriate or rescheduled. The practice’s usual cancellation and rescheduling policies still apply.

  • Yes. Walk & Talk Therapy can continue during the winter when conditions are reasonably safe and you are comfortable being outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather. We can adjust the route, pace, or amount of walking as needed. When outdoor conditions are not a good fit, we can discuss switching to a virtual session when appropriate.

  • Yes, when appropriate. If having your dog with you would help you feel more comfortable or support the therapeutic experience, please discuss this with your provider in advance. We can also discuss an alternative nearby route or meeting location when that would be a better fit.

  • Because sessions take place in a public outdoor setting, privacy cannot be guaranteed to the same extent as in a traditional office or virtual setting. These considerations are reviewed beforehand, and clients complete a separate Walk & Talk Therapy consent.

  • Cedar Lake South Beach is the standard meeting location, at the designated picnic table. Other locations around Minneapolis may be discussed and arranged in advance when appropriate. Cedar Lake is a meeting location for this service and is not a Ready Psych Go office.

  • Wear comfortable clothing and footwear appropriate for walking and the weather. You may also wish to bring water or other weather-appropriate items.

  • That is completely fine. Walking is optional, and the route, pace, and amount of walking can be adjusted based on your comfort and mobility needs. Sessions can also include sitting or a combination of walking and sitting. Please let us know in advance if there are accessibility considerations that would help us plan an appropriate meeting location or route.

  • Because your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, sessions will generally still end at the originally scheduled time. If you are running late, please contact your provider so we can coordinate where to meet and adjust the route as needed.

  • The therapeutic approach and goals are the same as traditional psychotherapy. The primary difference is the outdoor setting and the option to walk during the session.

  • Walk & Talk Therapy is currently offered only in Minnesota. Cedar Lake is the standard location, with other Minneapolis-area locations available when discussed and arranged in advance. This service is not currently offered through Ready Psych Go’s California or British Columbia locations.
